Chickens - pure delight!

Being a veggie I am more than aware of the disgusting and cruel ways in which a lot of our animals are reared for meat but I hadn't really thought about where my eggs where coming from. Although I have always tried to buy free range eggs I was still not satisfied that the chickens where being kept in conditions that I would find acceptable so I have recently acquired my own little brood of egg layers and now I can eat my eggs happy in the knowledge that my chooks are leading full and happy lives in my garden.

My wonderful boyfriend built me the most fabulous chickens house (more of a chicken palace really), it could comfortably house around 10 big chickens, but I have got 6 so they've got a bit of room to stretch their wings should they wish.

If you have the space and a little bit of time i thoroughly recommend keeping chickens, not only are the source of the most delicious fresh eggs you will ever taste but they are also good company and very amusing, they all have their own little personalities, they can also be stroked and cuddled and they love to be chatted to. And the feeling of opening the nest box to find a beautiful warm fresh egg...... pure delight!

My first blog

This is scary stuff, I've never blogged before but decided to have a go after reading my mate Tim's blog and thinking that it seems like a good way of getting things off my chest. I also have a lot of stuff whizzing around my brain box and feel that it would probably be best out in the open where it is no longer keeping me awake at night. Apologies in advance for any nonsensical ramblings and randomness, also am prone to very bad mood swings, but you'll probably pick up on that as time goes by ;-p .

The River Exe, Oakfordbridge, Devon

So at this precise moment i am sitting in bed at my boyfriends house, he has gone off to work leaving my to enjoy my last day of leave in peace. I have been on leave for the last 16 days, haven't done much with my time to be honest, although i did take a quick trip to Devon to visit my folks for mothers day. the rest of the time i have been moping around my flat, walking the dog and trying to wind the cat up ( i ended up with quite a nasty injury from that, you forget how quick they are)!

Ooh, i forgot, i have also been ice skating a few times, Rich and I have taken it up as a bit of a hobby and for his birthday i got him some skates, also got myself some ( i couldn't be seen in those nasty cheese infested hire skates whilst he was zipping about on his nice new ones). Went skating last night and tried out my new skates for the first time, OMG! they hurt like hell and I've got hideous blisters and bruises on my ankles now.I hope they wear in because they look much cooler than the hire skates, especially with my fame inspired leg warmers over the top! V.Cool! I must also mention at this point that Rich's skates are super comfy and he has no blisters at all.........git!
